Ina Garten and Paula Deen
I simply adore Ina Garten.
And I also love me some Paula Deen.
From 5-6 p.m. on the Food Network the two Empresses are back to glorious back. I enjoy having them on while I’m preparing dinner for the family. Sometimes this means ripping open a box of Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper Beef Stroganoff other times I’m a regular Paula Junior and actually “formulate” my own recipes. I even fix dinner and pretend that I’m the star of my own cooking show. I do this out loud and my kids just hate it so much that I do it more.
I love that Ina and Paula are the zaftig women they are and I don’t go near the shows with the skinny cooks. I’m sure they’re perfectly nice but they’re not my people. Ina and Paula are my people. Someday I want to be more accepting of own zaftig size and be comfortable in my skin as they clearly and beautifully are.
I think this makes me shallow.. so I’m in transition. Forgive me Ina and Paula, I still haven’t learned all you’ve got to teach. But from 5-6 I’ll keep trying to learn.
And am I the only one staring in my own t.v. show live from the kitchen and delusions of hotness? I bet not. I see you and you should have your own show hot stuff!

I adore them too. They seem happy with who they are. It’s a hard thing to do.
uhoh
love paula
NEVER HEARD OF INA GARTEN.
time to rectify that…
I adore both of those fine Ladies, although I don’t often get to watch them – when they’re on, ,I’m usually riding herd on The evil Genius outside, as evenings are the only time I can go outdoors without instantly bursting into flames. It does get hot, ’round here.
It is awfully hard to buck society’s trend of “only thin is pretty”, even when there are plenty of beautiful plus-sized women out there. We are our harshest judges, raised that way from the teat and unlikely to change state now.
Sometimes I think that the best I can hope for is to teach my son to see differently, to love differently, openly, and unabashedly, without judgement.
Meanwhile, I am still cringing inwardly and mentally apologizing whenever I take The Evil Genius to the pool for a swim, because I hate, hate, hate making anyone see me in a bathing suit – especially those poor young, impressionable life guards, who wouldn’t be able to haul my arse out of the water if they were twice their swizzle-stick bulk and a hydraulic hoist to boot! Lucky for me, I AM a flotation device!
Sigh. When you get your cooking show, I’ll watch.
Shade and Sweetwater,
K, who is trying to believe that “The bone is for the dog…the meat is for the man!”
hell yeah, now that’s what i’m talking ’bout
noble pig – we’ve got to do your 5 mile a day walk is what we gotta do!
MizFit you’ll love Ina – she predates Paula for cooking shows and she has a totally different vibe but me likey.
K – Thanks for watchin ma show but more thanks for being so insightful!
furiousball – bangin’
I like them both but I think my favorite is Racheal. I like that she is bubbly and obviously eats, same as Ina and Paula. Although I watch I really never cook; I’m not sure why they are so intersting to a non-cook?
I agree Reba.. and sometimes they take care of my cravings. Weird.
I love Giada, but of course she is beautiful and thin and she may cook with Nutella but she is not eating it. But I have to say, I too want a hot bod and will not settle for anything less. It may take me until I am 100 but god damn it will happen. Just let me know when your selling tickets on the bullet train to smokin’ hot body. I am there.
For my children, always be happy with who you are…For me, completely different story. It just wouldn’t be me if I actually liked my body.
Isn’t that the truth Felicity we have hopes that our kids don’t suffer under the same worries we have.
I totally relate to your comment “it just wouldn’t be me if I actually liked my body.”
Ah well. I’ve get great legs… truly that’s my secret. Otherwise… not so good. But let’s do that emphasizse the positive in fact that might be a post coming up. Show me your favorites!
Love you guys.. night.
Kiki, I think you and I are sisters. I have great legs. Otherwise…yeah, not so great. My favorite outfit is shorts and a long-sleeved or elbow length shirt. You know, something that covers the arm flab.
I have a 16 year old daughter, and she is about 5’5″ and 140 lbs. She has some rockin’ curves, and she loves them. She is actually not obsessed with being “skinny” or losing weight. Of course, she is also a dancer and a softball player, so she’s in decent shape. All I’m saying is that hopefully I’m doing something right, because she seems to be comfortable in her own skin.
The other two? Skinny like rails. I hate them. You know, in a loving sort of way.
i LOVE the barefoot contessa, she rocks the whole
cooking thing and makes it sexy!
and paula dean, awesome too. she’s a home girl.
i likes your blog a lots.
i watch Ina the most and i love her, Paula is one of my favorites but i rarely watch her. I want to live where Ina lives it’s so pretty…i hate giada everytime someone is on her show, even her mom, she bosses them around and has to have everything perfect and perfectly lined out on a million different dishes! paula and ina know how to make cooking look REAL. not fake..they just rip open the packages and dump em in the pot! and i love that they show it on their hips
..giada probably takes a bite..stop rolling the film.. spits it out and starts filming again. I’m only 17 though but i love ina and paula!
Okay, everyone, i don’t think it’s right not to watch Giada because she’s not overweight and unhealthy. She is a role model that shows you can eat delicious but still look and feel great! Maybe if you started cooking some “skinny cooks” recipes, you would enjoy watching Giada cook up some fine italian quisine. Now don’t get me wrong, i absolutely adore Paula, but Ina? Wow she makes me want to hurl. She’s so smug all the time, making meals for Geoffrey, who probably married her for her cooking. I don’t want to start an argument, that’s just my opinion. Now i know everyone will hate me after this comment, but it isn’t right to talk down on someone because you are too lazy to substitute that whole milk with some skim!
