21 Day Don’tox

16

Recently the most popular blogger in all of Christendom, Dooce, was on a diet. She did the same diet that Oprah famously just completed as well. It’s a 21 day cleanse that focuses on mostly eating veggies or something, I don’t really know. But the diet is based on the book Quantum Wellnessby Kathy Freston.

Dooce recounts on her blog how after 8 days her doctor told her to get the heck off it. (Paraphrasing of course.) Anyway I’m just so glad this diet didn’t work in this instance because I just don’t want to do it. If it was all woot woot I’m skinny as a rail now I’d have to try it, crash and burn, and then feel like a failure. Dooce getting off it seems like she went on it for me and I’m absolved from having to try it.

Ms. Freston looks like a nice lady and all but I do not want to do it. I realize Oprah did and I applaud her. I just don’t wanna.

A quick internet search revealed that Quantum Wellness only asks that you do 21 days of cleansing or something. That doesn’t sound too bad but then there’s 8 pillars of wellness or something and I don’t really have time for 8 pillars. Maybe 2 pillars of wellness of my choosing.

Pillar of Wellness One: I promise not to do crack on Tuesdays.
Pillar of Wellness Two: I promise to floss on days I don’t pass out cold on the couch.
Bonus Pillar of Wellness: I am not going skydiving, ever,  so we’re good… wellness-wise I think.

I actually am worried about when Oprah comes back in the new season. She’s in reruns right now but what if she LOVES the Quantum Wellness 21 Day Detox? I am usually powerless on this stuff and then I’ll HAVE to do it. But for now.. Thank You Dooce or Dooce’s doctor for releasing me.

Anybody out there done it? Please tell me it didn’t work because an important Pillar of Your Wellness would be to tell me what I want to hear.

I haven’t…I would never, ever make it through.

  2. MizFit says:

    Id never make it either.

no beef jerky for 21 days?!

    why would I even try?

  3. I read Oprah’s wellness blog. Don’t worry. She’s not doing it any more. I spit water all over my computer when Dooce stopped. It is too radical to do all at once. Just stopping the alcohol alone would be enough. For Dooce and for me!

Phew.. I’m not along in not wanting to do this. But if you’re reading this and LIKE the diet please feel free to chime in. It’s just not my cup of tea.

And upon reading my post I hope it doesn’t seem like I want people to fail. I don’t I just don’t want the best way to weight loss to be through 21 day detoxes or hornets nests or something.

My idea of detox is to forgo the beer for an extra glass of water.

I think the 21 day detox would be doable if you normally follow a diet more similar to the detox plan. Otherwise, it seems like it would be way too strict and crazy to adapt to all at once.

  6. furiousBall says:

i think oprah and dooce should have a pillow fight in their bra and panties for 21 days straight.

  7. Kiki says:

that’s some pillow fight…furiousball’s favorite things list… it could be good

  8. Michelle says:

Holy cow, 21 days. That sounds like an episode of Intervention or something. I, maybe, could do 7 days. And that’s if I take off work. So, bummer, I guess I’ll be missing out :)

Just found you thru MizFit. Great, now I’m totally addicted to a new blog.

I’m the opposite though – if Oprah promotes it, I run the other way. Oh, except for that whole “Living Well” stuff. I mean really, what is with that entire “there is no past or future, only now” bull crap?

  11. Kiki says:

Michelle – I’m with you it seems like a job.
Mark – I totally take your fitness advice so if it seems tough to you I’m feeling better about my half baked opinion.
P.O.M. Welcome!! I must admit I have a Kitchen Aid Mixer I HAD to have after Favorite things and now.. um… what do I need to mix? And addicted… you made me do a little happy dance. We love addictions around here.. thank you!
Gena – yeah the detox would be way easier if I wasn’t so toxed!

When someone comes up with a cleanse that includeds steak and Maui onion potato chips, I’m in. I’m too old to torture myself.

  13. Kiki says:

    Amen Mrs. G!

  14. Mama Zen says:

If I do the 21 day cleansing, can I keep smoking crack on Tuesdays?

  15. I think a bottle of vodka is an excellent pillar: it’s tall, strong, and mixed well with cranberry juice which keeps you peeing happily. If your pee is good, so is your life!

  16. Kiki says:

Mama Zen I think that seems like a reasonable exchange.
Deb on the Rocks I never even considered the health benefits. That’s why I love you.. glass half full baby.
