The Most Weight You’ve Ever Lost

31

What is the most weight you’ve ever lost on a diet? Other people’s success stories inspire me. I always flip to that section first in the Weight Watcher magazine.

I’ll go first. I’ve lost 16 pounds three times in my life. (gained it back of course) Those other times 16 pounds put me near my goal so I quit the diet or “healthy choice” making. I’ve NEVER made Lifetime Maintenance with Weight Watchers or Atkins.

But here’s the thing, I used to only need to drop 20 pounds I NOW need to lose 40 pounds. 16 ain’t gonna cut it.

As of today I’m down 13.5 pounds since January. I am 2.5 pounds away from that barrier of 16 pounds and my historical quit the diet danger zone.

So I’m on a 17 pound watch. When I clock a 17 pound loss it will be be exciting for me and also a big turning point. Will I stop making “healthy choices” or will I press on?

So what’s the most weight you’ve ever lost and can you do it again? What gets you over the hump?

the most weight i ever lost was 34 pounds. i always have a goal and as soon as i hit it i stop the diet. i don’t always hit it though. right now my goal is 9 pounds lower than my last goal. that gives me 20 pounds to lose. since losing those 34 pounds i have never gained it all back. the most i ever gained back is 20. then i would lose that plus some. right now i just need to get motivated. i am going to france in sept so that should motivate me some! 2 months to do something about it!

  2. suzanne says:

The most weight i’ve lost before was 40 lbs which made me a lifetime weight watcher member.
This time i’m started at 174.4 and right now i’m at 142.4 and i’m trying to get to 125 ;) I do find it harder this time as i expected it to be as easy as last time and because i’m older it isn’t. But i just keep going and figure i’ll get there sometime or other ;)

  3. Hilary says:

The most I’ve lost was about 35 lbs . . . sadly all regained, plus another 20 lbs. Currently I’ve got 65 or 70 lbs to lose. My plan to avoid the regain/bounce-back this time is to work my way through the cognitive therapy assignments in the Beck Diet Solution Book as I lose weight.

  4. furiousBall says:

i lost 40 pounds last year and i might be required to duplicate that feat again if i don’t get my back fixed soon

  5. Cathy C says:

The most I lost was 65 lbs about 4 years ago and I am
have maintained most of it – I have gained about 15 lbs from stregnth training and spin classes as the clothes that I bought from the weight loss still fit. I just wrote about this and shared pictures for everyone to see on our site. But the kicker was changing my brain and after visiting a plastic surgen because I thought a little suck and tuck would do it – Well the Doc said I needed a major overhaul and that would not solve everything and would cost a small fortune I said oh Sh*t and found another way.
It is a process and takes time – 1lb at a time that is how you have to think of it – there are no quick fixes and the “D” word is evil. If I can do it anyone can – Check out the post to see the before and after pictures.

  6. Isn’t it so weird how you put forth all this effort to lose weight and once you get close to your goal, you start slacking off and lose all that hard work. It simply makes no sense, but I am glad to hear everyone else does it.

The most weight I have ever lost is 15lbs. After a major knee injury and 2 surgeries (almost 1 year on crutches), I had managed to pack on a pair of newborn Joli-Pitt twins. I have always been fit and never really had to try to lose weight before. I think it nearly killed me to get these pounds off. It was a lot harder than I ever expected it to be. I am VERY glad I went through it though, because I will always remember how hard that was and really try to be conscious to never put myself in that position again.

  7. 60 and counting…

(previous to this attempt it was 50… which I gained back)

Is this post a coincidence? Stop by my site and see my latest entry to see the most weight I’ve ever lost!

  9. That is great! I think the most I ever lost dieting was about 12 pounds. But that’s getting ready to change now that I have to lose 25. Keep up the good work!

  10. MizFit says:

30 pound of BEER and PIZZA in college.

    The humpover? I graduated.

    Finally.

  11. Nora says:

The most I’d ever lost was 29lb over about a year before my wedding – I have since but about 1/2 of it back on… It was horrible to be so close to 30 and never get there. It was all about regular visits to the gym, which I stopped about 10 months ago when I stopped having a gym membership and that’s when it all came back.

  12. DoubleK says:

The most I’ve ever lost was 145 pounds. I started at 320 pounds and I got down to 175. I am currently 207 and working to get back down to at least 175.

I like to set little goals and my little goal right now is 7 pounds. That’s it. Just 7 and then I’ll reset and make a new goal when I’ve reached that. It’s not so much that I want to maintain a specific number but more that I would like to be able to climb stairs with out getting out of breath easily.

  13. Kiki says:

Natalie – 2 months is for sure enough size for a few pounds and that France trip.. please take me.
Suzanne – WOW! 142 sounds good to me babe.
Hilary – I’ve got to hypnotize myself I think.
furious – I HATE it when an injury derails my workouts (when I used to work out)
Cathy C – Screw that doc, you look so good! Thank you for the encouragement
Sweets – I think I put on the twins and Shiloh and the adopted kids too.
    Weight Ladder – 60, I’m so jealous
Michelle – SERIOUSLY! WOW. If anyone wants to be inspired go to Michelle’s Diary. And it looks like we are thinking alike!
Mental P – thank you for the atta girl
MizFit – Beer… mmm You need to whip Greta and I into shape.
    Nora – I feel you.
DoubleK – You’re my hero, and maybe I need to follow your example of small goals instead of the BIG NUMBER.

  14. Kyddryn says:

It wasn’t a diet, but I lost 35 pounds when I was pregnant. I didn’t even have to buy maternity clothes, just wore my “big girl” pants! Of course, I put it all back on in hurry once the little feller was out in the world. Dang PPD and the easily available Whitman’s sampler!!

The most I lost on an actual diet was 20 pounds. I’m down 12.5 right now, and am hoping to blow all my previous records out of the water (including the “How long I can keep it off” one) by eventually shedding a total of 112 pounds or 8 pants sizes. I like the idea of small goals – my goal for this year is twenty pounds or one pants size, whichever comes first. Next year, we’ll see.

Good onya for 13.5. Go you!!

    Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who would lose more weight if she’d haul her arse to the gym more than once a month!)

  15. Kim N says:

I lost about 33 pounds a year and a half ago doing Atkins. (for nine months). Then I got pregnant and I couldn’t stan the thought of eating all the things that I had been eating for months so I carbed out for nine months and gained almost 50 pounds during my pregnancy. My baby is now seven months old and I have only lost 20 pounds of the weight. I started back doing a modified low carb diet and although I haven’t lost much yet I feel a lot better. I expect things to go much slower this time, but as long as I see progress I will be happy!

  16. Athena says:

I lost about 50lbs a few years ago. It was sort of accidental and I was young, so it wasn’t done correctly but somehow I’ve managed to keep it all off! Some of these people have worked so hard, its awesome! I’m impressed!

  17. Miss Britt says:

I lost 40 lbs on Atkins three years ago.

I’ve only gained 5 or so back here and there. (As in, on again, off again, like a high school sweetheart.)

  18. Kiki says:

Fran Drescher says every woman gets two times in her life where she just loses 10 pounds. It’s true that’s happened 2 time sin my life where I just was nervous or busy or something and BAM. But I used my two times and it will never happen again.

Now each pound… stuck to me like glue.

  19. Kel says:

Two years ago I managed to lose 35 pounds. I cut way
back on sugary foods and white flour stuff like bread,
which is a big weakness for me. Stopped easting meat, and
boosted my intake of veggies. I also walked a few miles
a few times a week with friends.

I have gained back 15 of it, mostly since December of
2007. I had some stressful months there and hopefully
    that’s behind me.

I pulled out the shorts for the first time a last month
and none could button, so I needed to drop 5 pounds quick
which I managed to do, so there is hope for me yet.

  20. Kiki says:

Kel 35 is terrific. Tomorrow we’ll talk science of weight loss. And of course I mean I’ll lightly glaze over a recent headline I read and base my entire life I on it for five minutes.

  21. 20 pounds a thousand years ago. I carried in a 44 pound bag of dog food the other day. I need to lose 44 pounds. I need to lose a bag of freakin’ dog food, for God’s sake!

  22. Kiki says:

annbb I’m going to have to try that… in fact that may be a post! Stuff in the grocery store that equals my lard.

  23. Kyddryn says:

Way back when, I did WW, and one of the things they did was offer items that represented the weight we’d lost – bags of sugar, sacks of potatoes, that sort of thing. I kinda dug that – it somehow makes it more comprehensible, seeing that you lost two gallons of milk or a bag of sugar or apples. Of course, the flip side of that is realizing that I want to lose a Sam’s Club sized bag of rice in the next five years…

  24. Shelley says:

I’ve lost 40 lbs twice. I was at about the same weight both times when I started, and I’m about 15 lbs heavier than my low weight now. In other words, I’ve gained back 15 of the 40 I lost the second time. If that makes sense.

The first time was in 1998 when my mom suggested Atkins to me, because she and my dad had both tried it. My motivation at the time is that I had gotten to a weight where I was really…uncomfortable. Once I started, it started working, and it worked great right up until Halloween. Nothing like a diet that you can completely kill with one mini Snicker’s bar.

The second time was two years ago. My mom and my kids and me visited my brother and his wife and daughter in Virginia. My brother had gotten quite heavy too (bigger than me) and we decided to have a “biggest loser” contest. We started July of 2006 and ended when they got to my mom’s house that Christmas. The motivation was a $250 prize fund. We talked my mom, dad and sis-in-law into participating too, but only because we wanted a bigger prize fund. ha. We all put in $50 and went by percentage of weight lost. Well, my brother, that bastard, ended up winning because he dropped 60 pounds and my official total was about 38 lbs, and his percentage lost was a little higher. My motivation was totally the money. If someone said to me “I’ll give you $20,000 if you lose 50 lbs by Christmas”, I think it would be a snap. Seriously, money is a huge motivator for me. My problem right now is that I have that body dysmorphia thing, only in reverse. I’m fat, but I think I look fine. I have no motivation at all not to eat off the roll of sugar cookie dough that my evil skinny daughter just bought.

  25. Mollie says:

When I was 24 I dropped 65lbs in about 3 months. The only changes I made were I stopped drinking pop (coke for your southerners lol) and starting walking on the treadmill a few times a week.

Then I got in a relationship and gained it all back. Lost it again (all 65) about 4 years ago and.. you guess it gained it all back. 65 seems to be my number.

The only “diet” program I’ve ever done was Jenny Craig, which worked – I lost 33lbs, but it’s soooo expensive I just wasn’t able to stay on the program.

I stopped eating meat last October, which forces me to eat more fruits, veggies and whole grains and got my butt back into the gym and have lost about 13lbs. I keep bouncing up and down 3lbs but I’m holding.

I have hypothyroidism AND PCOS, both of which cause weight gain and both of which make weight loss extremely difficult but I’m determined!

I have a weightloss blog that I started to try and keep myself accountable. It’s on http://www.extrapounds.com.

It’s a great sight that has a food log, weight log, exercise log etc. If you’re like me and hate the idea of carrying around a notebook to journal your food & progress but don’t mind being online then it’s a great tool!

  26. Kiki says:

Way to go Mollie! Sound like you’ve got will power and ingenuity.Keep us posted girl.

  27. Kiki says:

ANd I didn’t realize it but your my fellow Dimple Girl!
We’re too cute. (Course my dimples are turnin into wrinkles but let’s not talk about that.)

  28. Tanya says:

Great question. The most I lost was 20 pounds gained while writing my thesis. I did it mostly because I was very broke after and couldn’t afford to eat … anything! I also had a lot of time on my hands which was spent in the gym.

  29. Kiki says:

Sounds like money is a motivator Tanya! Either lack of it or promise of it.

Thank you guys for playing along with this. I really think getting past the 16 will be a big thing for me.

Except I’ve been eating like there’s no tomorrow the last few days. Ugh.

  30. Kiki says:

And btw people Tanya’s site is awesome.. Next time I add stuff to the blog roll she’s on it. If you want to know more about what you eat Tanya is your blogger!

  31. Felicity says:

I have lost 35 lbs, two times…Right now I am only 15 lbs over the skinniest I have ever been, but have 30 lbs. to lose. I have failed the last 3 weeks on WW, but am working really hard this week to make it better.
