I Am Woman Watch Me Spin
For various reasons I’m going to start exercising August 16th. Someday I’ll go into why that date but for now just know on August 16th I will begin working out again after a long exercise draught.
One of the items on my exercise menu is a spinning class. It appears that if you want to burn calories spinning or indoor cycling is your class. Indoor cycling can burn like 600 calories in 40 minutes. Ka-ching.
Here’s the other thing. A few years ago before this recent fitness draught I got pretty into spinning and really liked it. Here’s why I liked spinning so much. It is the only time I can totally let it rip.. cardio-wise. When I run (jog) I feel like I’m going to fall or twist my ankle or my woman junk’s going to knock my eye out. I hold back. When I swim I just can’t go very fast and there’s a bathing suit and I can never let it rip when a bathing suit’s involved. When I do stair stepping I’m just mad.
But somehow with spinning I can actually take the pins out and GO! I’m not going to fall off the bike or hit a pot hole or twist an ankle. After a few classes I get stronger and can really push it.
So I’ll be spinning. The class starts after Labor Day. But remember I’m starting slower than spinning on August 16th. I need a few suggestions. What is your favorite activity to slowly ease into exercise?
Tune in Friday as betheboy’s wife helps me get my head on straight when it comes to exercise. The two people behind those links above helped me get through week without my beloved Greta!

I have never taken a spinning class. I am a walker/jogger, and I need to get back in the groove, too. Why the 16th? I am so curious;)
i’m still waiting for the go ahead to start running again from my physical therapist. once i’m cleared, look out. i will rock you

You go girl!! Before I started spinning I walked up and down hills and that really helped to get me somewhat prepared. Although my very first spin class I found myself looking around for the oxygen masks to drop from the ceiling!!
I like swimming for cardio and strengthening without straining joints. I can’t swim fast, either, but I don’t really need to – I am more about trying to get more laps into a set time period without worrying about being a speed racer. I guess in the water I’m an endurance type rather than a sprinter type.
I also like the elliptical machine for cardio, because it’s also easier on the joints and gives a fairly thorough workout.
Not that I’m doing either right now. Hmm…I think I need an E-Day, too.

Mental – some day I’ll tell..not that exciting..don’t worry
furious – As Rocky says to that Russian dude Go For It.
MizFit – Puhleeze you’re the one to be admired. And that other issue eases up after a day or two.
Cathy – AMEN! The first few are going to be tough and too funny about the oxygen.
Kyddryn – Can I do an entire post named E-Day cause that’s BRILLIANT!

I’m actually kind of struggling with this right now, too…after a long hiatus, I think I might try yoga and swimming to get me back on the horse (or wagon?). I wish I could do spinning…I’m with MizFit – it’s a killer on the hoohah. But it is a kick ass workout!

spin, Spin, SPIN, SPI-IN!!!!!!
My favorite exercise to slowly ease into exercise is always no exercise at all. I go from sitting in the car to advanced martial arts glory… then i go back to my car.
What Nicole said. Except without the martial arts part. I used to walk quite a bit…and now I don’t. Right now my excuse is that it’s way too freaking hot, even in the mornings. (It’s PHOENIX, people!) I have this yoga DVD, it’s for fat chicks even, called Just My Size Yoga, or something. Maybe today I’ll take the wrapper off of it. Would that count as exercise?
If I had to have a favorite, it would be something like racquetball. You know, an actual game where you’re getting exercise at the same time. Or playing some basketball. I can’t stand just walking on a treadmill, I want to scream from boredom in about 2 minutes. Yes, even if the TV is on.

Sometimes getting those wrappers off the DVDs is the limit to the workout I can take. They really make me mad!
