The Twitter Diet
Are you having a hard time going it alone when it comes to your weight loss goals? Are you missing the “weighing in” element that some of the weight loss plans like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig offer? But maybe money’s tight and you can’t afford to join anything. That’s where Tweightloss comes in.
Tweightloss members are using Twitter to slim down. Twitter is a mini-blogging site where you can only post 140 characters per message. You follow people that interest you. (I’m KikiLaughsItOff on Twitter if you want to give it a try.)
The inventor of Tweightloss Audrey McClellan from the website Mom Generations came up with the idea about a month ago one night while using Twitter. She was looking for a little support as she tried to shed 18 pounds of baby weight. Before long other Twitter users were talking about how they all needed support, accountability, and motivation…. and soon Tweightloss Challenge was born! Audrey took a moment to answer a few questions from Does This Blog Make Us Look Fat?
Explain Tweightloss! How does it work? How many people are doing it so far?
For Tweightloss Challenge #1 we had 80 people join within 2 days. We capped the first group off at 80. For Tweightloss Challenege #2, we capped it off at 75 people. We designed the Tweightloss Challenge to be a 12-week program that encourages participants to begin a more healthy and active lifestyle, and hit a total weight loss goal over the course of the challenge. We divided the participating members into teams and assigned a Team Leader/Trainer to guide his or her team along, answer questions and to keep everyone motivated.
Each Monday is “Tweigh-in” day, and then we tally the teams’ total weight loss for the week. Each Monday night at 8 PM EST, we announce the ‘winning’ team on Twitter, and randomly choose one person from that team to receive a prize from that week’s Tweightloss Challenge sponsor.
Can people still join?
Yes, absolutely. I already have a list going for Tweightloss Challenge #3 that will kick off in September.
Thank you Audrey and I’ll try any diet once so I may join in next time around. Remember @Tweightloss is the name or @Kikilaughsitoff if you’d like to Tweet with me. I can’t promise weight loss advice BUT my after hours tweets are 140 characters of pure silly. It’s part of me charm.
I’ve turned into a Twitter addict if you guys have questions fire away. Meanwhile are high prices for gas and everything else affecting whether you sign up for a paid weight loss service?

oy, i am so out of the loop. Not only do I not know what Twitter is, but I have no Facebook page, routinely ignore Linked In requests and am still listening to cassette tracks. (Ok, I made that last one up.)

Good Morning Kiki!
You know, if I understood Twitter…but I don’t. I’ve been there, and it’s very confusing.
In answer to your question, I’d say that a gym or whatever is pretty low on my list of financial priorities right now, but mainly what stops me from joining is that I don’t go. I’ll sign a year contract to get the lowest monthly price (I’ve done this twice now), and then I go for like four months and then stop going. Of course, I still have to pay out the remaining 8 months of the contract, but it automatically deducted from my checking account, so the fact that I was still paying for it didn’t stop me from ignoring that the gym existed.
My whole life is changing today. I’m going from evening shift to day shift at work. But you know what I just did? I got up early…and went for a brisk walk. Before the sun came up, because that’s the only time I can even pretend to stand the temperature. But I did it. And it was free. And hopefully I can talk myself into doing it again tomorrow.
And I’m wondering if I should join this Tweightloss thing. You know, if I can ever figure out how to Twit.
