Shopping In Your Closet
At a recent weigh in a fellow dieter reported a weight loss success of 35lbs. Her success prompted her to dig around in her closet to unearthed pants that she hadn’t been able to squeeze into for years. To her glee she discovered the suckers fit!
With this ridiculous economy “shopping in your closet” has a certain appeal. It sounds almost frugal to revive new old clothes. My expanding girth impacted the wallet because it has forced me to purchase larger and larger sizes just to get things zipped. In addition the constant layering and arranging my outfits in a futile attempt to hide what’s really going on here is expensive. My ensembles are not complete with merely a top and pants. Please. I need a jacket and perhaps giant earrings to distract the eye away from.. everything.
So I went shopping in my closet today. There’s a lot of ill-conceived situations in there and no amount of weight loss will make that burgundy velvet off the shoulder holiday thingy look good. My current weight also lead me to accumulate long, I mean down to the knees, sweaters. There’s five of them in there. At some point I believed the long sweater would make me look like Rachel Green from Friends. But mostly my flowing largeness usually comes off more like Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company. Kaftan anyone?
Pawing through the layers I rediscovered a darling pair of black capri’s that I’m dying to wear again, with this French blue tailored shirt. I wish it fit me. Then there’s this sequined skirt that, I’m sorry, I just LOVE. I wore it on the holidays not too many years ago and wonder if I’ll ever wear it again. I also discovered that I really need to have some sort of closet intervention. It’s like someone put my closet in the KitchenAid mixer. Very messy but I digress we’re talking outfits not organizing.
I’ve lost about 8 pounds over two months. (I know dizzying pace right?) Nothing new fits but I will say my larger sizes are a little looser. So that’s something. I’m going to hold on to that.
Is there something in your closet that you can now fit into after losing a little weight? Is there something you wish you could fit into? And after losing weight do you get rid of the big stuff so as not to go up again so easily? Your thoughts.

Don’t wait too long to try stuff on when shopping from the closet. There was a nice teal suit that I was hoping to get back into when I was losing. By the time I felt I had lost enough that I MIGHT be able to fit into it and tried it on. It was too BIG! I donated most of my larger clothes – had to make room for my new clothes!

I have seventeen pairs of jeans just waiting for me. Maybe even taunting me.

Oh, I have a huge wardrobe if you count all the sizes in my closet! So yes, I have many pieces of clothing I’d like to wear when I lose weight. In particular, a purple striped shirt, my comfy jeans, and a black jersey dress from 2002.
On another topic, I went to WW yesterday and while I hadn’t lost any weight in my two-week absence, I also hadn’t gained any. 5.6 lbs down and going strong!

That kaftan thing made me think of my mother in law…I used to ask her if she wanted to stay in her gown for the day and she’d say,(as if her figure really mattered at this point…) “OH NO! You can grow to a gown!”

I lost over 40 lbs. with Weight Watchers and tossed the clothes I outgrew as I shrunk. Wish I’d have saved the biggest pair of pants (size 20) to keep as a momento. Alas, I plateaued for 18 months and finally quit paying money to gain weight. Since I’ve been gaining but plan to use, I try to buy my clothes 2nd hand. Saves money and I won’t feel bad when they are too big. (Can’t wait to fit into my “skinny” clothes from 2 years ago.)

As I was losing weight LAST TIME I was on WW, I gave my too-big clothes to my girlfriend, who was a size or two bigger, but losing. I eventually plateued, but at a reasonable weight, and my girlfriend kept going. She went on to jealousy-inducing skinny, and has kept it off. I, on the other hand, could use my fat clothes back…
my best friend used to MAIL ME FAT CLOTHES (her word) just in case….make me store em so should she need them back there were waiting.
never a good plan.
she always needed em back….
