dsc01912.JPGOn this Election eve we urge you all to vote. Go in there and exercise the right earned for all Americans with the blood of patriots.

Of course the presidential election is important but there’s an election we all make every day that’s determining our lives.

You’ve made a big choice already. You’ve decided to do something to be healthy. Maybe you’re trying to eat better, or exercise, or quit smoking. That’s a life commitment. But the big commitments are honored by the little elections we make each day, each hour, each meal. The little elections make or break those health pledges. Many times we’re no better than the worst politician, we break our campaign promises to ourselves.

Did we vote to go to the vending machine and get a candy bar, or did we pull the lever on a  bottle of water to manage our craving? Did we vote to skip the exercise because it’s raining or did we get on the treadmill instead? Did we choose to eat a few carrots to make it until dinner or did we impulsively grab a cookie? We face an election every minute of our lives.

So no matter who wins this presidential election we can each win the race to a better life.  I, Joan the Dieter, humbly submit my platform.

Joan the Dieter Manifesto

I chose to drink my water.
I chose to exercise 5 times a week.
I chose to journal my food.
I choose to chose fruit instead of candy.
I chose to eat fewer carbs and those carbs will be good, high fiber foods.
I chose to NOT let one bad day derail my whole health plan.
I chose to eat more vegetables.
I chose to use smaller plates.
I chose to donate my larger size clothes to charity.
I chose to get enough sleep.
I chose to accept that I look pretty good already.
I chose to support others who are in the struggle.

So how are you voting for your health today? How are you voting for your health this minute?

I’m choosing to drink water right this minute. And when faced with leftover cookies from Friday’s “food day fiasco,” I chose my 2-point oatmeal.

  8. Liz says:

In Weight Watchers this week, the theme was things to vote YES or NO for. One big thing to vote NO for was letting anyone (including yourself) make you feel guilty for pursuing your health objectives. So I choose to stick my fingers in my ears and ignore the guilt monster.

Lizs last blog post..No Wire Hangers! No Instant Oatmeal!?
