Diet History

7

A few weeks ago, my blog-sister Kiki wrote a fabulous post taking us down her diet memory lane. This got me thinking about my own. What trail of Krispy Kremes, chocolate chip cookie dough, fazoli breadsticks bread crumbs did I eat which led me to the Gingerbread house of dieting in which I currently live? Will I ever be able to eat my way back out of here?

  • 1970 – I am born. I am skinny. 6 lbs 15 oz. The doctor proclaims me “just a little lady.”

  • 1970-1989 I am waaaay skinny. Remember when they used to line all the girls up in gym class and make ‘em get on a scale? 9th grade? Yeah, I remember praying, “please let me way at least 90 lbs!!”

  • 1990-1995 – Still skinny. But I finally got boobs, so bonus. Even so, I still did that low-fat T-factor diet. Why? Me = idiot.

  • 1995-97 – Marriage. Husband works afternoons so we barely see each other and I eat alone.

  • 1998 – Fertility drugs.

  • 1999 – More fertility drugs.

  • 2000 – 60 pound weight gain to give birth to a nearly 9 lb baby.

  • 2002 – Other baby (turns out getting pregnant DOES cure previous infertility issues…oops!!) Also, husband works 9 – 5 now and we eat together as a family.

  • 2000-2004 – Only 40 pounds of said 60 pound weight gain comes off. The rest likes it here and wants to stay. Also, medically high maintenance formerly 9 lb baby means Krispy Kremes are A-ok.

  • 2004- present day Atkins, Weight Watchers, Atkins, Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers….15 lbs off, then back on, then 10 off, then back on, then 8 off, then 12 on….

My scientific research has revealed one constant through out these years. What’s different about me now then when I was 24?? I blame my husband. See, ‘cuz he wants actual meals to eat. With side dishes. Like the kind that come out of or off of the stove. Or oven. I always mix those two up. Prior to 1995, I existed on frozen diet meals, baked potatoes and Diet pop. Then the babies came and they really like raw cookie dough. Seriously, I think that’s what they put in Enfamil to make it so tasty.

So here’s my plan. I need to get the whole family on Lean Cuisine/Healthy Choice/Smart ones? It’ll work right?  Right?

You made me look back on my diet and weight history and it’s depressing. Definitely all down hill with the first baby and the 60 lb weight gain, then the second one that popped up 4 wks post partum…sooo….I blame babies.

  2. I divorce my husband and got fat. How’s that happen? Ok so it was like 5 years later and he’s not really to blame. But let’s face it… they’re always to blame.

Wait, what are we talking about?

I too blame my skinny children. THEY eat yogurt, fruit, cheese, and carrot sticks. Why? Because I am determined to raise my children differently than I was raised. I simply hide my crappy food so as to avoid the “do as I say, not as I do” situation. Mmmm. More crap for me. Wait, am I doing this all wrong?

I blame my husband. He who eats anything and gains nothing. It’s just not fair!

families tend to be very “off the program” when it comes to solidarity dieting. ha ha. New dictionary entry

solidarity dieting: the voluntary, forceful or reluctant participation of one’s family in a dieter’s diet.
