Diet Tipping Point

9

DynamiteThis week will be my 2 month anniversary since starting Weight Watchers Online. I’ve lost just about 7 pounds. I wish it were more, but it’s 7 pounds. I’m not crash dieting or doing anything crazy like eating only lemonade and cucumbers…I’m eating sensibly, staying within my point allowance, and trying to exercise more (last week…not so much, but why dwell).

Here’s the thing though. When I was under the age of say, 32, it had never taken me more than 2 months to lose most if not all of my weight. Now…it’s 7 pounds. At this rate, it’s going to take me another 4 to 6 months to get to my goal weight.

And the holidays are coming…{insert ominous organ music and Vincent Price laughter here}

Help me Blogi-wan-kenobi, you’re my only hope.

What do you do to stay on track when you’ve hit the diet tipping point?

For starters, I’m heading over to MizFit to get a Monday affirmation. Also, ‘cuz she’s so cute I wanna put her in my pocket.

  1. My weight loss abilities slowed about when I hit 30. I could skip a meal here or there for a week and be down my 5 lb excell in a week. No more. I so feel your pain.

Sad to say when I get that diet tipping point and I feel like I’m going nowhere fast, I don’t do nice things. I probably spend a day or two overeating like there is no tomorrow.

    Don’t do that.

I look forward to hearing what others have to say. It’s an emotional battle with me, for sure.

  2. I’m doing the online WW too and my friend that has done both swears that the meetings are the way to go. She lost 5 or so, but 30 since she started going to meetings. I might *choke* actually give that a shot…

I have to agree. Meetings keep you truly accountable and encouraged. All the internet groups in the world won’t quite match up. Of course, you gotta go to a meeting with a good (read: funny and fun) leader. I need to go back, too. Maybe just to jump-start things and get through the holidays. Back to online after the new year, when WW meetings are packed with NYResolutioners.

Don’t quit! It sounds like you’re trying to talk yourself into quitting. That will just mean you need to start all over again at some point down the road. Anyway, WW is pretty much just eating well. Why quit that?

Hey, even if you maintain your current weight during the holidays, you’re still keeping off that several-pound gain most people experience during The Season… So it’s almost like you’ve lost a few lbs just by staying even, right? Right!

Yes, getting older makes it so much tougher, doesn’t it???? So annoying! Remember to celebrate the 7 pounds you lost! :)

  6. Hello! I enjoy your tweets – I’m a lifer from WW and I agree – the older, the harder – blarg!

Congrats on the 7 pounds – that is fantastic! Good for you – keep it up. Because what is the alternative?

This is a lifestyle – I have to find what is enjoyable to me and what motivates me, and live that way as much as I can. I don’t want to self-loathe myself for 1 – not being able to fit into my clothes and 2 – not sticking to something I know what works. Nothing ever worked for me but WW – I have always been curvy – because WW is fun, collaborative – so many people to help and support you, and easy.

The one thing that brings me back from tipping point and is most effective is activity – sounds lame, but no matter how much I do or don’t eat, that LITTLE extra activity does wonders.

I squeeze a walk in at lunch (I aim for 20 – 30 minutes- if possible) and dance to Kristin’s top 10 at night. I play at least 10 songs and dance – doesn’t need to be high impact – just getting my body moving for at least 20 minutes at night – I can wash the dishes, iron, fold laundry – ANYTHING to move for a little bit each night.

And anyone who thinks they can eat 3 FULL meals a day and lose weight is crazy (okay, not crazy of course – but it doesn’t work for me). What works for me is moderate brekkie, healthy lunch and moderate supper.

And thanks to everyone who said meetings – I’m going back – it’s been a long time and I’m now in Sydney (from California) but I’m going to do it, too.

GOOD LUCK – and happy holidays. Enjoy them because someday you may regret not having more fun during the funnest season of the year! Cheers, Kristin

What I try to do from Halloween til New Years Eve is focus on the event, not the food. I also always eat an apple or soup or something – I am diabetic, and I don’t like to have the floor bottoming out on me and have to reach for that delicious food that’s being passed around on trays!

There are always going to be birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Just take it a day (and an event) at a time, and you’ll succeed!

and there I was affirmationless…just wigging my arse whilst cursing the plank and making cranky fitness wave at the camera.
it does suck, doesnt it? I really did scoff when I was in my 20s at the old ladies (read: the age I am now) who lamented how much HARDER it is when youre older (hello 40!).

I hate to be too pollyannaish and say celebrate the success…but I will anyway.

me? when I plateau? I mixed things up a bit. changed the exercise…shifted the calories to higher carbs one day and lower carbs the next.

    Im no help am I..
