The Dreaded Doctor’s Office Scale (Revisited)
Has anyone ever put off going to an annual check up w/ their doctor because they didn’t feel like being weighed? {raises hand}
I’ve been avoiding the thyroid doctor for 5 months because of the dreaded scale. But, I went last Friday. I had boots on (knock off Ugg’s).
So here’s the age-old dillema…do I remove my shoes before getting on the scale?
At first blush, there seems like a simple answer. Take my shoes off. I weigh less without my shoes. But, on further analysis, I think the decision is more complex. If I leave my shoes on yes, I”ll weigh more. But, I don’t really know how much my shoes weigh. Therefore, I can keep my “real weight” delusion going. If the scale says one hundred blabety blah, I can tell myself, “Yes, but these boots weight at least twenty pounds. Or…for sure ten.”
Makes sense. Right?
I left my boots on. I was 12 pounds heavier than my last visit 17 months ago. When the doctor reviewed my chart, she raised a brow and said, “Hmm. Looks like you’ve put on a little weight.”
{alarm bells} {panic} {impulse for defensive sarcasm}
The only thing I could muster to say was, “Flip flops!!”
Next time, I’m walking in there naked.

Heh, I always take my shoes off, mostly because I usually *am* wearing boots, and the doctors usually ask me to take my shoes off. I think it’s because they do the height and weight at the same time, and my boots give me a height boost too.
I like the comeback though ^_^
Yes. The other option is to never go to the doctor in the wintertime when my clothes are the heaviest.
