How Cindy Lost 100 Pounds Twice

27

cindyThis is Cindy Sype, a long time friend of mine. I want to share her story with you because every time I think I can’t do it I look at Cindy and am inspired by her determination, persistence, success, and downright gorgeousness.  First up give Cindy a round of applause because last week she hit the 100 pound weight loss mark. (Seriously if you normally visit but don’t comment I would SO love it if you would comment and just lay a woot woot on Cindy today because she deserves it. Here I’ll start, WOOT WOOT CINDY!) Here’s how my long time inspiration, Cindy Sype, lost 100 pounds on Weight Watchers.

DTBMULF: How much have you lost and explain how this is the second time you’ve hit the 100 pound milestone?
Cindy: I have lost a total so far of 102.4 in about 47weeks. I want to lose another 30 pounds to be at goal.

In 2001 I lost 102 pounds on WW and then ended up gaining it all back in record time. I think that when I did it that first time it was more about looking thin then about my health. I found out it is easy to gain weight back when you go to McDonald’s everyday and when you make yourself believe that it’s only a few pounds and doesn’t really matter. (I blamed it on WW not working anymore). So I gained all the weight back. I did LA Weight Loss after that and lost weight for my brother’s wedding and then gained that back. I think I joined WW a few times the past few years but it just never stuck with me. I would just gain the weight back.

DTBMULF: What made it work this time?
Cindy: This time was different for me. For one my weight was the highest it had ever been and it was a HUGE number. Plus my weight really depressed me. So I decided to join and I found my leader from the first time I lost 100 lbs. Now I am determined to make my goal and to keep it off. It’s too much work losing all this weight over and over. I want to be healthy now. That’s my main reason to do it is to be healthy and feel good about myself.

DTBMULF: What does it feel like to be 100 lbs lighter?
Cindy: The difference to being lighter…hmmm…I guess it’s being able to shop at any store and not have to go to the plus sizes and it’s nice to be able to run on the treadmill and not get tired after 5 minutes. I also am happy that I can go to Cedar Point this year and not have to worry about fitting on the rides (sad isn’t it?) And I am going to wear a bathing suit for the first time in 8 years!! yay! I just feel so much better being 100 lbs lighter. I don’t get out of breath walking or going up the stairs. And I am not embarrassed of myself and my weight anymore.

DTMBULF: What’s your best weight loss advice?
Cindy: Set small goals for yourself. Don’t look at the big picture. I set 5 pound goals, that way you aren’t focused on the big number. Just stick with it even if you mess up keep at it. One day doesn’t ruin the entire week, it’s one day. If you set your mind to it you can lose weight. And exercise is a big part of losing weight for me. Find something you like. (Cindy does Turbo Kick and run/walks on the treadmill.)

DTBMULF: What’s one food that you used to eat but avoid now? What food do you eat now to replace it?
Cindy: Food that I never eat anymore…pizza (I can’t eat just one slice, I need many slices!) Now I eat lean turkey burgers a lot!

Congratulations Cindy and thank you for sharing your story. I’m going off to make a turkey burger. And please show Cindy some comment love, I’m just so proud of her.

Way to go, Cindy! Losing it once is amazing, but to do it twice is really inspiring. Suddenly the 50 pounds I need to lose doesn’t look so daunting.

  2. Congratulations Cindy! This is an awesome accomplishment, and you’re surely in better health now and happier too! Isn’t is amazing how much better LIFE is overall when you’ve lost weight? The energy, excitement, and comfort in life is priceless!

Keep looking as being healthy, and not “thin.” This was smart on your part. And think about the health & happiness of your family (especially if you have children). Congrats!!

You look awesome, Cindy! You should feel very proud of yourself. Your strength and commitment have made you so much healthier. I just reached my goal with WW in Nov. I’ve lost 162 lbs. So I can understand the work involved both mentally and physically to accomplish what you have accomplished. Way to go!!

I too have lost and gained many times on Weight Watchers. I am back on track but each time it gets harder as I am older. Maybe some of us could write to Weight Watchers and convince them to have a special meeting for Lifetimers.
I find that the maintenance part of the program a bit weak. I would like to see a special group just for those who are maintaining. The issues are somewhat different. After about a year and all the glow of praise has worn off, it is easy to slip off the wagon. Just one bite here and one bite there and before you know it you are back where you started and then some. I do truly believe that Weight Watchers needs to have a more aggressive maintenance program.

What an inspiring story! I’m losing weight for the second, third, fourth time around too. It is so important that we lose it to feel better first. The looking good part is a bonus. I’ve also broken my weight loss into manageable goals. It is definitely easier that way. And wow, I commend you on giving up pizza. It’s one food I don’t think I’ll ever be able to resist, although I only eat it once a week now and never more than 2 slices, which I make sure I have points for.
I’m down 41 pounds, almost to my first big goal…50 lbs.! Adn then there’s 30 more after that. I’ll be rooting for you. Keep up the good work.

Woo hoo Cindy — great job. I’ve been a lifetimer for 7 years now — it still takes work and attention. But it is so worth it. Congratulations!

I’ve seen this weight loss happen first hand -I work w/ Cindy- and it’s been very impressive. She keeps herself from digging into the occasional food that shows up in a workplace and her perseverance can be inspirational…I say “can be” cause you have to allow it to be inspirational dontcha. :)
Now I need to start losing a few pounds again too. Last summer I dropped 20 pounds on South Beach, then stopped following the guidelines. Thanks to all the clothes we wear in winter I didn’t really notice it creeping back on til a few weeks ago and now I can see that I’m back to where I started.
Keep it “down” Cindy and good luck to everyone!
