I'm going to jump in here & say that yes, diets can work in the short-term, but for LASTING results, just "dieting" is not going to do it. Like the study said, one needs to STICK to it. But who can (and wants) to stick to a diet their whole life? Not me.

So you need to learn how to eat all foods - the good & the "bad" - and include both of them in your diet. Of course, it's a balancing act :-)

I also must say that all calories are NOT equal. I'm sorry, but if you eat M&M's all day and consume 1,000 calories a day you will lose weight, but not for long. Same goes if you ONLY eat carrot sticks all day at 1,000 calories (though that's almost impossible to do) -- you'll lose weight but won't keep it off for long. (who the heck wants to live on a diet of carrot sticks anyway?) But I think you get my point.

So, thought they say dieting works--they also point out you must stick to it. And "dieting" for life is NOT the answer. You need to have a healthy relationship with ALL foods, and learn how to balance the healthy & the "guilty" ones so you can LIVE a happy life. Don't diet for life.

It works... calories in... calories out. It's amazing how you lose the weight if you exercise and eat right.
