Global Warming Diet

16

So, apparently, now the UN has been called in to address my eating habits. Seriously, it’s gotten that bad. My eating is allegedly responsible for Global Warming…not just the combustible muffin top I crammed into my Sarah Jessica Parker Bitten jeans today.

Earth_-_HurtLemme ‘splain. The UN wants me/us to quit eating meat for one day a week so that we reduce the need for cows. Because cows flatulate and apparently flatulating cows are bad for the ozone layer. See, I don’t get this. If I eat the cow, I’m pretty sure it’s going to stop flatulating anyway (or else I’m totally asking for them to take it off my bill). Sooo…my theory is that to make any kind of real impact, I either need to stop eating beef altogether, or I have to eat a lot of beef.  Ugh, I don’t know. All I do know is that if the UN tells me Honeybuns are the miracle cure for the planet and I therefore have to stop eating them, I’m moving to Uranus.

interesting… i would think that the beef problem would be less from the farting and more from hauling feed with trucks and all that.

It’s all good. I haven’t eaten a cow in 17 years, so I’m compensating for you.

  4. considering my hubB and I have cooked red meat in our home exactly one time since moving in together (so 6 years total), I have to say, we are truly doing our part to reduce cow fart emissions. I am expecting some sort of medal to arrive in my mailbox, return address “UN”, in the next week.

Well, as far as I know, honey buns don’t flatulate. Nearly as much as I do.

It may sound stupid, but if the millions of people who eat beef every day did this, a difference would be made. Not only you’d be helping the environment, but also your heart.
It irks me so much when people say ‘omg, i could never give up meat!!’.. GROW UP it’s JUST meat vrs. your health and the future of this planet. hmm.. i wonder which decision is the smartest?

Hmmn… rationalization time… okay here goes. Honeybuns, and particularly you’re eating of them, is essential to the overall yin/yang balance of the Universe because eating them makes you happy and we need more happy people on this planet.

There. Does that sound good? :)

I thought the reasoning behind the request to go easy on the meat eating was that forests are being cut down to make grazing land for cattle so that people can eat the cattle.

Too funny! Will cutting meat out once a week really save the Earth? I don’t believe cows are the Earths biggest problem.

I think fast food beef is a huge source of rainforest deforestation, better quality beef seems to come from feed ots, which are completely gross anyway. And yes, their gas.
I confess to eating a burger occasionally, but I try to go for the grass-fed and local variety, though it’s pricey. at one or two a month, I can afford it.

  16. Hi Greta,
As usual your post is hilarious. But all kidding aside, we can do more to help the environment if we give up meat than if we stop driving our cars! A pound of meat requires 750 times to water to produce than a pound of soy, just as an example. Just another reason to be a vegetarian (yes I am one and by the way lost 30 pounds just by giving up meat, dairy and eggs!)
