I keep hoping that scientist on the TV show FRINGE will develop a gizmo that hooks up to your brain and allows you to fret the pounds away.

Otherwise I get in trouble this time of year due to pollen allergies keeping me cooped up indoors for several weeks. I can't currently afford a gym so working in the garden and walking with friends were my go-to workouts.

What I try to do this time of year is exercise restraint in the grocery store. If I don't have it (it being anything salty or cheesy or crispy or all 3) sitting in the pantry, then I can't snack (or binge) on it to begin with.

I've broken my journey up into smaller steps this time with some big goals in the background. I keep working on losing 10%, which so far I've done twice, with a first big goal of 50 pounds by my birthday in May. I have 1.2 pounds to go.
Plus, I'm getting ready for a small triathlon on April 18. This is a huge goal for me, which I've been working toward since November. Many, many mini-goals along the way, like just getting out of bed in the morning and making it to the gym!

I'm definitely a one step-at-a-time type of person. Like you say - focusing on the 'big goal' is way to overwhelming. I also focus more on the journey than the destination - meaning setting goals of getting my good health guidelines (water/ fruits/veggies/etc) in; or earn so many activity points; or stay within my points. Things that I can control - and let the scale take care of itself.
