The Tortoise and the Hare Diet
Here’s the deal. I want to lose 15 pounds. It’s not a huge weight loss, but it’s where I am on the spectrum. Regular readers of DTBMULF may recall that I, your trusty servant (Robin…f/k/a Greta) joined Jenny Craig at the beginning of last month.
It worked for me. Slowly. I lost 2 pounds… or 1/2 pound a week. The upshot is that it was super easy and I have no doubt that I could stick with that way of eating for a very long time. But…1/2 pound a week is too slow for me. I know, I know. It’s not about the weight loss. It’s about the life style change and eating healthier. However…two major weddings and a High School reunion this summer.
Slow and steady isn’t going to win my race.
Sooo…for the month of May I’m doing Low-Carb. I’m on day 4 of Atkins Induction and I’ve lost 1 pound.
I’m a hare. Totally. What could possibly go wrong!

My sister and I did Atkins before a trip to the Bahamas a few years back. We both lost about 25 pounds in about 10 weeks. It worked as a quick fix. If you’re on day four, you’re almost out of the carb withdrawal phase–it gets easier after that.
We were careful to make healthier choices with low-carb food as well. We watched calorie intake along with the low carb. Atkins shakes are great–I still drink the chocolate ones, even though I’m no longer on low-carb.
My only warning is that as soon as I ate a french fry on vacation, the no-carb thing went out the window and I gained the weight back and then some, quicker than I lost it.
I’ve been living low carb since mid-March 2007. I’ve lost over 155lbs (so far) and kept it off easily. So if you’re looking for low-carb support, I’m here for ya, babe!
As you already said and Diane made plain – you can’t diet, lose weight, then expect to be able to go back to eating the way you did before. It HAS to be for LIFE.
Cool thing about Low-Carb is that not only is it best for our bodies, but there’s SO much good noms to eat! Butter, cream, cheese, bacon, steaks, eggs … *droooool*
Best of luck with the new plan! Check out our diet blog and our snarky diet forum for support and encouragement:
Same as everybody else said/says – Atkins worked great (maybe a little too great – towards the end some folks wondered if I was ill) but as soon as I allowed one yummy slice of pizza to pass my lips the ball game, she was OVER.
For a short term GOTTA LOOK GREAT goal however what will be the harm?
