Big Fat Problem

Disclaimer: None of the below should be considered medical advice. ‘Cuz I’m not a doctor. These are just my opinions/experiences and…duh…it’s the internets.

PhotobucketOk, so here’s the deal. I’m a raging insomniac. Ever since my kids were born. I’ve been on most of the popular prescription sleep-aids. For me? Here’s the rundown…

Ambien – LOOOOOOVE it. Too much. When I found myself giddy happy while leaving the pharmacy, I knew it was time to NOT take it anymore.

Xanax – Great. But makes me groggy in the morning.

Lunesta – I love you. I want to have your babies. Seriously. Except after nearly 3 years on it, my new doctor is feeling all oogy about it. Something about how I need to relearn how to fall asleep on my own. FINE!

So now? Trazodone. It’s an anti-depressant sometimes used for insomnia. I take a small dose. The first few nights were rough, but now it seems to be working and I’m definitely noticing better quality sleep.

Except…

People. I’m pretty sure I’ve gained 4 lbs since I’ve been on it (2 weeks now). What? WHAT????!!!!!! Son of a….

I’m going to give it a month (or a cycle). Please oh please let it be a fluke. Because given the choice I’m going to have to go with being thinner and grumpier from lack of sleep.

God hates me.

Ooooh, this is all too familiar! But Trazadone works for me after a trial of all the others. No weight gain. Hmm could you be sleepwalking and finding the oreos, but not remembering? ;-)

Ifeel your pain! I too suffer from insomnia and love, love Lunesta! Tried Ambien, but didn’t like the results. I wish I didn’t need meds to sleep!

well i’ve became an insomniac 1st in ’00 after 2 valves were replace in my heart-they re-built my engine ,so to speak, and i had so much energy i was firing on all cylinders(i think that’s appropriate car analogy)…then, i developed HYPOthyroidism-by the by, one of the most disugsusting illnesses ever invented, so i’m a raging insomniac again…all of the above mentioned drugs occasionally work but once in awhile i take “2″ of something instead of 1 (cuz 1 just ain’t cutting it) then i put on my CPAP maxhine and suck in enough O2 to prevent me from going into the eternal coma—great way to live, huh?

SoggyB…I have hypothroidism too. I agree…disgusting. Gawd. You win. :)

I love Xanax. Problem is though, at this point I doubt I could fall asleep without it. But as I have an anxiety problem, I’m in love with it. I should probably get my own prescription, instead of stealing (with his knowledge) from my husband. Oh well, they prescribed him way more than he needs anyway.
But Xanax? It’s like being stoned a little, and it gives me the munchies. Seriously. I wish I could take it and not munch. Bleh.
