The Vacation Diet – Does it Count as Cheating if We Were On a Break?
I’ve been Atkinsing for nearly 3 months now. Last week, we were on vacation at the lake. I started off ok but by day 3 my downfall was S’mores. For the last 4 days of vacation, I ate whatever the heck I felt like eating.
I need a ruling. Does vacation bingeing count as falling off the wagon or is it excusable? I kind of “planned” for bad eating and went hard core induction the week before (for my WW peeps, this means I restricted myself to 20 carbs or less for a whole week).
What say you?

I too am now trying to get my steadily growing booty back in it’s tightly fitted jeans after several summer weeks of “I’m on vacation” chowing.
I think we would make ourselves completely mad if we colored inside the lines all the time. There is ALWAYS room for a little indulgence.
Now, off to go find my running shoes…seriously.
Totally not cheating, especially since you expected to and thus worked extra hard the prior week. That, my friend, is something few people would do!
A “diet” includes everything we eat – planned for or otherwise. So tech-ni-cally, you are always “still” on your diet. Maybe it just included a few items you won’t be eating so regularly.
There. See? Wasn’t that easy? Go forth and carb-sin no more.
We are all human and at some point you are going to be sucked in by the almighty smores, M&Ms, cupcakes – whatever your vice may be. All in moderation, friends. If you were a bit of a chow hound on vacation, just get back on track and don’t look at it as a failure – or so my friends at weight watchers say. As long as you are doing something about the weight, you are golden!!! It’s those fat-asses still sitting on the couch with their Costco size bags of Doritos that are failures!
I think if you are really serious about getting to a
healthy place and weight, its about a lifestyle change
an not so much a diet that restricts you.
Its all about balances – I don’t think you should ever
deprive yourself, but I also don’t think you should ever
get and “I don’t give a rip” attitude, either.
When you do, you almost inevitably have remorse, which can
spiral you even further down the wrong path.
If you overdo it, tighten the proverbial belt and go the
straight and narrow for a few days afterward to atone for
your food sins and move on down the scale!
Vacation eating is not cheating. It’s vacation. Weight loss takes work and we’re not supposed to work on vacation. That said, now that you’re home, dust yourself off and get back to whatever was working for you before vacation!
