How Big is Your B.A.G.?
File this one under Things That Go Through My Brain While Nearly Passing Out Running on the Treadmill. Or possibly, How to Pass Off the Obvious as New Using Not-So Clever Anagrams.
I used to be skinny. Really skinny. Go-to-the-store-grab-a-size-four-go-home-and-it-fits-perfect-skinny. Annoying.
So now, here I am, hoping like crazy I’ll be able to drop some real pounds by July. I want it to be someone else’s fault. Alas, no. What my minutes years of watching Biggest Loser pouring over scientific studies has shown me is that those of us who struggle with our weight (regardless of how many pounds we have to lose) can point to three basic factors. Only one of which we can actually control.
1.) Behavior – I include my eating more/less movey-aroundiness as well as childbirth.2.)
2.) Age – For me, 35 was the watershed year. The year after
which everything got sooooo much harder.
3.) Genetics- I realize now that my size 4-edness was mostly attributable to this factor.
B.A.G. If you’re A and G are working against you, you have to pump up the B. If you’ve got good G, but bad B, you’re A probably doesn’t matter much eh?
So how much B.A.G.gage do you have working for you/against you?
(I know, I should focus on running more and anagramming less!)

I dunno. I think it’s pretty clever. I think A and G are two things a lot of people don’t consider when trying to lose weight, especially people who have a significant amount of weight to lose. We see all the “flat abs” ads and articles, and that becomes our goal. Then, when A and/or G prevent it from happening, we’re discouraged and (sometimes) give up. Or maybe that’s just me. I lost 100 pounds just before turning 50 and still have yet to see an ab. The strength and power I feel in controlling the “B” part of the acronym is enough to compensate. More than enough.

Who are you trying to kid? This is awesome!
Unfortunately I’ve got all 3 working against me. Although I’m working on the B (pregnancy/birth of kid #2 meant B got a pass for awhile. I know, not smart, but it happened. Now I must deal with it.). A and G can go take a flying leap. (And oh how I wish they would!) Seems 26 was my year. Staying a size 10 became sooo dang hard after that. And there are no skinny-minis in my family. In fact the vast majority are over 200 lbs. So keeping my weight around 150 feels like a win, even if it’s not where I’d really like to be.
