Till Sweat Do Us Part
For the nearly 20 years we’ve been married, my husband in and I have disagreed about air temperature. But we’re not alone. Research shows that the top three subjects married couples fight over are money, sex and annnoying habits.
Our first house had a small-room air conditioning unit. On hot days, it was my mission to squeeze every drop of Freon I could out of the thing. I would set up a series of fans to push the air from the family room into the kitchen. I would drape sheets in the halls to concentrate the cool into our living areas. I imagined that if pioneer families had small air conditioning units, they would make them work like I did.
The kids and I would sleep in the family room at night to beat the heat. My husband tolerated this summertime cold air worship because, when you have small children, doing irrational things is normal.
MUCH later we moved into a house with whole-house air conditioning. That’s when our real conflicts began. Continue reading…
