52 Mondays – Jillian Michaels: No More Trouble Zones – Results
This week, I focused on exercise, exercise, exercise. I purchased Jillian Michaels’ No More Trouble Zones DVD. The cover of the disc claims it will help me “eliminate love handles, muffin tops, and wobbly arms for good.” Awesome! If it will also help me do laundry, clean that splattery stuff from the bottom of my appliances and pay attention the very first time the when I tell it where it left its cell phone, I may actually have to marry it.
I digress (I usually do). This workout is approximately 50 minutes long. You’ve got your standard warm up and cool down sandwhich and in between, 40 minutes of circuit training. I thought I was in reasonably good shape when I started. I’d done 30 days of The Shred back in June. However, vacations, home-buying stress, kids’ swim team and general summer crazy/laziness got me out of my groove. My athlete husband coached me not to be too discouraged if the first few days were rough but that something called muscle memory would kick in soon and I’d be Shred-like in no time. Turns out…my muscles have no memory. Instead they have a raging case of ADD.
That said, this workout is kind of perfect for me. Jillian’s six minute circuits consist of a strength move (like lunges with bicep curls), cardio, and a minute of intense ab work. I never got bored because we were always moving on to something new. My heart rate was up and I was sweating (which says something, I’m not a big sweater) the entire time. Jillian’s trademark is no-nonsense and that works for me. You can follow either the full or modified version of most of the exercises.
BOTTOM LINE: No More Trouble Zones was tough, intense, but totally doable. It’s also great for people like me who get easily bored doing workout DVDs. She works all the areas I need and I like her kick butt attitude. Her philosophy is “quit whining and just do it, this won’t kill you.” I concur. I’m definitely keeping this one in my repertoire. At 50 minutes, I won’t have time to do it every day. Every other day, probably. I lost 1.5 pounds this week.
