Don’t forget to email us your address at dtbmulf@gmail.com so you get your copy of Charla’s book! Congrats. Read Barbara’s comment below along with the other great dress thin advice we aquired!

I have a black sweater that I absolutely love, and I wish I owned it in several colors. It’s a 3/4 sleeve scoop neck, fairly fitted. I accentuates my neck, bust and collar bones (all assets for me). When I wear it, I feel fabulous!!

I am is a woman whose relationship with shapewear – or SPANX is well documented.

Here I let men know how to wear ’em. (I know. I’m a giver.)

Anyway national style expert Charla Krupp’s new paperback  How to Never Look Fat Again: Over 1,000 Ways to Dress Thinner–Without Dieting! is the bible on how to dress thin.  Sadly shapewear is a part of that equation. However Charla has great advice on the latest trends in shapewear. The woman knows stuff and she’s sharing information that guarantees you won’t buy shapewear that will make you want to take it off and throw it away during a trip to the ladies room (I’ve done that).

Charla spent some time answering my pointed shapewear questions. Here it is  – what we all need to know on how to wear shapewear that holds things in and doesn’t compromise our internal organs. Here’s  my interview with Charla Krupp and just a bit of what you’ll find in her new book.

Rebecca: What’s the best shapewear for backfat dispersement?

Charla: Love the way that you said that…dispersement. It’s all about creating your own Fat Redistribution System!! First stop: Flexees Instant Slimmer Firm Control Singlet, style 2556, $55. Bike short body suit with added compression in the back. Wear your own bra..

Rebecca: How tight is too tight – in other words should the stuff hurt? Find out the answer after the jump AND how to win her book!

Charla: No!  That’s why it’s important to try this with the tags on, and wear it around the house before you take the tags off…If it hurts, take it off, bring it back! We shouldn’t have to maim ourselves in the act of looking good. It’s about making women feel better about themselves!!

Rebecca: If you put ON shapewear you know that flab is going somewhere – how do you keep it from slopping over the top of the waist band? The answer AND a way to win the book for FREE after the jump!

Charla: If that happens, the piece is too small on you….try a larger size. The fat should not spill over, but be in control and in place where it belongs.

Rebecca: If you can only get one set – what color – nude? White? Black?

Charla: Nude. Never White. Nude always looks better than white.Black if you wear a lot of black. I once wore a black knit dress with nude underneath and when you look at the photos, you can see my shapewear!

Rebecca: Explain about wearing it for MORE than just special occasions.

Charla: I wear shapewear 365 days…even if you’re not fat, you want to feel in control. Flimsy undies do nothing for you. Even if you’re in shape, you don’t want to jiggle. Investing in a wardrobe of shapewear is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

Rebecca: Do you have a favorite brand? Spanx? Slimpressions? Under Armor? (kidding on the last one – unless that works)

Charla: I like Flexees by Maidenform and Spanx–and if you have space for more, TC and Wacoal…I like fabrics that are lightweight and a pleasure to wear. I won’t struggle into a piece with hooks, eyes and lots of seams.

Rebecca: Shapewear as outerwear? This is not a Madonna kind of deal with the bra on the outside is it? Because the only one who can pull that off is Madonna – in 1985. We want to know more!

Charla: Now you can buy shapewear dresses, skirts, pants, athletic wear, tops…What I am wearing right now is  the Fat Free Dressing Weekender Pant from Flexees, firm control. It’s a long black pant that is so much more comfortable than a pair of jeans. Told you, I live and breath shapewear! I go out in this…no one knows it’s shapewear.

Thanks to Charla for taking the time to answer our questions! You’ll find these tips and more in the new book.

We happen to have a copy for you to win! Just leave a comment. We’d REALLY like to know: Do you have a tip for dressing thinner without dieting? We’ll announce a winner Tuesday morning March 15th. The best comment will get Charla’s book and  we’ll all get great tips on looking thinner with no dieting!

I say BLACK! It’s all about the black!

  2. Paula Kidney says:

Spanx swimsuits. LOL Black also too I agree. wide leg pants make you look thinner too and turtlenecks

  3. Megan says:

V-neck shirts. For some reason they make my face look thinner. I am a firm believer in spanx (the biker shorts that go all the way under my boobs!) . I like that it has a pee hole. Okay, TMI.

  4. Hang out with people fatter than you.

If wearing shorts etc out blast some cold water onto your legs while you’re in the shower it’ll make thighs look smoother :) accentuate collarbone & avoid high necklines, wear hair in a side part, always wear lovely shoes (shoes never judge your belly haha) & a cinched waist is your best friend.

I channel my inner Johnny Cash, and go black head-to-toe. Does it work…not really, but it can’t hurt. Super colorful scarves keep it fun, and draw attention to the face- where the attention SHOULD be!

Don’t wear baggy bulky fabrics or clothing that is too small. Well cut medium weight in dark colors except near your face – scarves, jewelry in brights and lights are good.

  10. Diane says:

I find that one color dressing can be slimming – as in all black or brown or other color from head to toe. And layers. A nice open cardigan over a fitted tee can do wonders for creating a flat stomach illusion!
And of course shapewear. I don’t know that I’d want to wear it every day, but this past weekend at a work event, it helped me get into a suit that had become just a tad too tight. Not only did the suit look better, it fit more comfortably as well.

  11. Beth says:

I have to wear tops with V-necks or a collar and front placket… some kind of vertical detail on the top- or else my shoulders and bustline look too matronly. No crew necks or scoop necklines for me! How do you avoid the uni-butt look when wearing shapewear with pants? I hate that look!!

  12. Melissa Gralnick says:

I don’t have any tips on how to look thinner with out dieting, that is why I MUST win this book! If I don’t I will look fat for the rest of my life 😀
