Chef Billy Strynkowski knows his stuff! He’s the Executive Chef at Cooking Light ® Magazine. I had the opportunity to interview him for Weight Watchers Cheese® at the National Harbor Food and Wine Festival a few weeks ago. This is the second day and I just wanted to share with you his insights. I believe to get healthy you have to learn what’s in your food, how to cook things you love, and how to substitute flavor for some of the higher calorie ingredients. Chef Billy is an EXPERT in this. Paula Deen And Diabetes

Paula Deen has announced she has Type 2 Diabetes. There was a lot of speculation about how she would handle this announcement since she’s famous for her less than diabetic friendly cooking. Would this ruin her business, her brand?

Hell no! She’s turning this diagnosis into a positive and hopefully something that will help thousands of others. She’s teamed up with a diabetes medication company and is now presenting recipes that ARE diabetic friendly. I have no doubt she’ll bring her joyful love of food and cooking to this new challenge and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with!

Sometimes people roll their eyes at my obsession to bring funny to health. But I am serious about the funny. Eating great and being healthy doesn’t have to be drudgery, especially now that Paula’s at the party!

Why I Resolve Stuff and Who Doesn’t Need to Resolve Anything

Hugh only needs to resolve to stay awesome. And maybe get a manicure.

It’s that time of year when we do the resolution thing. A lot of people scoff at resolutions and tell me they never do them. They shake their heads at my plans. They say they can’t understand why anyone would promise to achieve some goal that they’ll never stick to. They believe people can’t change.

But to me, a resolution is about optimism. A resolution is about setting the bar for yourself a little higher than last year. And it doesn’t have to be earth-shattering. One year I resolved to do a better job cleaning my coffee maker every morning. Up through March that thing shined like the top of the Chrysler building. Then in April I resorted to my old ways. But hey, three months of gleaming ain’t bad.

I make resolutions because I’m not perfect. I’m a human who makes mistakes, a human who wants to be a better human.Wanting to be a better human does not mean I have low self-esteem. When I mention a resolution many people tell me nice things like: you’re great the way you are. While this is nice it is not necessary. I know I’m great the way I am. Not many people can electric slide like me OR rock leggings with a big sweater the way I do.

I am a long time Paula Deen fan. I’m always trying to find my inner-Paula. And the blogging superstar The Pioneer Woman inspired me to photograph my dog like she photographs her horses. How’d I’d do?

It has come to pass that these two women have joined forces. The episode where The Pioneer Woman visits Paula Deen aired this weekend and is about to air again at 5:30 p.m EST. Oh yes I’m watching BUT I’m armed with the knowledge that I can’t eat like these two Southern Belle Butter Queens without undoing all my diet doing.

So if you want to enjoy the show like I am put down the butter and pick up the butter spray – you may call me the Queen of Butter Spray. Here are a few ways to resist the siren song of butter.

Well, finally, a politician with a voice of reason! Sure it’s a politician in Scotland, but who cares?

Jo Swinson, a member of British Parliament, was sick of cosmetics companies overly airbrushing the photos of their spokesmodels and then claiming it was the cosmetics that achieved the flawless looks.

She pitched a fit about it, and United Kingdom advertising watchdog group Advertising Standards Authority agreed. The ads seemed to say if you bought the cosmetic, you, too, would be poreless when, in fact, the flawless faces in the advertisements were achieved with airbrushing, not cosmetics.

The two models in the banned ads are the hideously ugly Julia Roberts and the unfortunate looking Christy Turlington. What’s that, you say? They’re already gorgeous? Exactly. These two women are already beautiful. If they’re deemed not good enough for photos, then what hope have we, the average Jane, to look good? None friends, none….continue reading.
